Understanding IP Addresses: IPv4 vs IPv6 - Part 12

Discover the difference between IPv4 and IPv6 addresses, why we are transitioning, and what it means for the future of the internet.

Every device connected to the internet needs a unique address to communicate. This is your IP address.

The Old Standard: IPv4

IPv4 uses a 32-bit address format which looks like 192.168.1.1. We have essentially run out of available addresses.

The Solution: IPv6

IPv6 uses a 128-bit address format which allows for an almost unimaginably large number of unique addresses.

Why the Transition Matters

The transition to IPv6 is necessary to ensure the internet can continue to grow.
